A little Q and A!
Q Can I have more than 10 people on board the houseboats?
A The Monticello, Sharpe, Sumerset and Liberty Bell boats are set up, furnished and recommended to have no more than 10 people on board. The Sunstar is set up, furnished and recommended to have no more than 6 people on board. The maximum legal limit on the Monticello, Sharpe, Sumerset and Liberty Bell boats is 12 people. If you need to bring additional people there will be an additional $100 per person charge for the extra people. The maximum legal limit on the Sunstar is 8 people. If you need to bring additional people there will be an additional $100 per person charge for the extra people. Children are included when counting the number of passengers on the boat.
Q Do I have to pick up and return the houseboat at the same place?
A Yes, each houseboat is picked-up and returned at the home port of S & S Rentals.
Q Is gas an additional expense and how much gas will we use?
A You are responsible for the gasoline use. The Monticello, Sharpe, Sumerset and Sunstar houseboats are equipped with a 190 gallon fuel tank, the Liberty Bells, a 95 gallon fuel tank. The tank is filled before your trip begins. Your most economical cruising speed, 2,000 RPM, will use 3.5 to 4 gallons per hour. If you cruise for 6 hours, you will use about 24 gallons of gasoline.
Q Can we cruise at night, and where do we anchor for the night?
A Due to safety and insurance restrictions, you are not allowed to drive your houseboat after dark. There are many sandy beached along the river perfect to spend the night. You may also dock at S & S Rentals or another marina for the night.
Q Can we barbecue on the houseboat?
A Yes, and for your convenience each houseboat is equipped with a barbecue grill.
Q Can we bring a ski boat, fishing boat or personal watercraft?
A Yes, by towing your ski boat or personal watercraft, you have additional ways to enjoy the river.
Q What type of fishing license is required?
A Iowa and Wisconsin residents must have a valid fishing license from their state.Nonresident anglers are required to purchase a Wisconsin nonresident license.A Wisconsin fishing license is not available in Lansing, an Iowa fishing license is.Bait and tackle are available in Lansing.
Q What about pets?
A We welcome pets aboard the Sumerset and Liberty Bell models. You must pre-register your pet at least one week prior to departure. All other S & S houseboats are pet free.
Q How far in advance should reservations be made!
A It is usually necessary to book 3 - 4 months in advance to get the date you want, but cancellations do offer the opportunity for last minute reservations.
Q Do you provide insurance coverage for equipment from S & S Rentals?
A Damage waiver may be purchased to cover our equipment.This applies only to the property of S & S Rentals.It includes the drive unit, propeller, and equipment inventory.This does not cover any third party property or personal injury.The Liberty Bell's and Sumserset's cost of this coverage is $34 per day and the Monticello, Sunstar and Sharpe are priced at $47 per day.Without the damage waiver, the renter is responsible for any and all damage, loss, or breakage incurred to the houseboat.;
