Company history
S&S Rentals was founded in 1960 by Leo Stirn and Paul Spinner, hence "S&S." In 1980 Paul sold his shares of S&S to Leo's sons, Gary and Greg.In 1988, after 28 wonderful years of renting houseboats, Leo Stirn decided to retire at the age of 78. In 2007, Gary Stirn sold his half of the company to Greg & Sue Stirn. "S&S" now stands for Stirn and Stirn. For over 50 years, our goal at S&S Rentals has been to provide you with an enjoyable and relaxing vacation filled with good memories!
What we do best
S&S Rentals is well-known for renting out the finest fully-furnished houseboats available on Pool 9 of the Upper Mississippi River. Pool 9 is in the middle of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge, which is protected national land that it also freely accessible by the general public. In addition to our various models of houseboat, we also rent pontoon boats, fishing boats, and kayaks to explore the backwaters and shallows of the river. While out on the river, you are likely to see some wildlife activity - in fact, Pools 9, 10 & 11 have more bald eagles than anywhere else in the continental United States. Pool 9 alone has 92 active eagle's nests!
Where we are?
Our marina is located in the town of Lansing, Iowa underneath one of the area's towering bluffs. We are approximately 20 miles (by boat) south of the city of La Crosse, Wisconsin - less than 4 hours drive from Milwaukee, 5 hours from Chicago, 3.5 hours from Minneapolis, and 4 hours from Des Moines.For more information...
